Lesson 22

Memory verse: “Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.” Revelation 14:7

“At the time appointed for the Judgment the close of the 2300 days, in 1844 began the work of investigation and blotting out of sins. All who have ever taken upon themselves the name of Christ must pass its searching scrutiny. Both the living and the dead are to be judged "out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works." Great Controversy 486

We are now living in the great Day of Atonement. In the typical service, while the high priest was making the atonement for Israel, all were required to afflict their souls by repentance of sin and humiliation before the Lord, lest they be cut off from among the people. In like manner, all who would have their names retained in the book of life, should now, in the few remaining days of their probation, afflict their souls before God by sorrow for sin, and true repentance. There must be deep, faithful searching of heart. The light, frivolous spirit indulged by so many of professed Christians must be put away. There is earnest warfare before all who would subdue the evil tendencies that strive for the mastery. The work of preparation is an individual work. We are not saved in groups. The purity and devotion of one will not offset the want of these qualities in another. Though all nations are to pass in judgment before God, yet he will examine the case of each individual with as close and searching scrutiny as if there were not another being upon the earth. Every one must be tested, and found without spot or wrinkle or any such thing. Great Controversy 490

Solemn are the scenes connected with the closing work of the atonement. Momentous are the interests involved therein. The Judgment is now passing in the sanctuary above. For more than forty years this work has been in progress. Soon none know how soon it will pass to the cases of the living. In the awful presence of God our lives are to come up in review. … When the work of the investigative Judgment closes, the destiny of all will have been decided for life or death. Probation is ended a short time before the appearing of the Lord in the clouds of heaven. Great Controversy 491

Let us look at some text in The Bible on the final judgment.

1. Does He come to judge the world? Yes or No? _________ circle one, after you read these texts. Psalms 96:13 “Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to ___________ the __________: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.” Psalms 98:9 “Before the LORD; for he cometh to ____________ the ___________: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.”

2. Is there a time to judge the righteous and the wicked? Ecclesiastes 3:17 “I said in mine heart, God shall judge the _____________ and the ___________: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.”

3. What does God judge us by? Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God shall bring every ___________ into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be __________, or whether it be ___________.”

4. Is there a time he has appointed to judge the world? Acts 17:31 “Because he hath _____________ _______ day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.”

5. Did Paul teach about God’s judgment? Acts 24:25 “And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.”

6. How many will be judged? “Romans 14:10 “But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall _________ _________ before the ____________ seat of Christ.”

7. Enoch prophesied when the judgment will be in Jude 14, 15 “And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the _________ ___________ with ten thousands of his saints, To __________ ____________ upon __________, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their __________ ___________ which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

8. This is the message sent to the world just as the judgment hour opened in Heaven. Revelation 14:6, 7 “And I saw ____________ angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the ____________ ____________ to preach unto them that __________ on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, FEAR GOD, AND GIVE GLORY TO HIM; for the __________ of his ___________ is ___________: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

9. Daniel 7:9, 10 Tells us what took place at this time. “I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the ______________ was _________, and the _________ were ___________.

Thus was presented to the prophet's vision the great and solemn day when the characters and the lives of men should pass in review before the Judge of all the earth, and to every man should be rendered "according to his works." The Ancient of days is God the Father. Says the psalmist, "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God." [PS. 90:2.] It is he, the source of all being, and the fountain of all law, that is to preside in the Judgment. And holy angels, as ministers and witnesses, in number "ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands," attend this great tribunal. Great Controversy Page 479

10. Who was brought before the ancient of days? Daniel 7:13, 14 “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the ________ _______ __________ came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. “The coming of Christ here described is not his second coming to the earth. He comes to the Ancient of days in Heaven to receive dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, which will be given him at the close of his work as a mediator. It is this coming, and not his second advent to the earth, that was foretold in prophecy to take place at the termination of the 2300 days, in 1844. Attended by heavenly angels, our great High Priest enters the holy of holies, and there appears in the presence of God, to engage in the last acts of his ministration in behalf of man, to perform the work of investigative Judgment, and to make an atonement for all who are shown to be entitled to its benefits.” Great Controversy 88 479, 480

11. What is Jesus’ position in the judgment? 1 John 2:1 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an _________ with the Father, _________ ___________ the righteous:”

12. What will the people be judged by? Revelation 20:12 “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were ___________ out of those ____________ which were __________ in the books, according to their works.

13. What standard will all be judged by? James 1:25 “But whoso looketh into the perfect ________ __________ ____________, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.” James 2:8 – 12 Read there is a record being kept in Heaven of all things in our lives. “In order to be prepared for the Judgment, it is necessary that men should keep the law of God. That law will be the standard of character in the Judgment. The apostle Paul declares, "As many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; . . . in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ." And he says that "the doers of the law shall be justified." Great Controversy Page 436

14. What book will be opened in the judgment? Daniel 7:10 Revelation 20:12 “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the __________ of _____________: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. We also know there is a book of remembrance (Good deeds) Malachi 3:16 “Then _________ ________ __________ THE LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of ________________ was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.” The Book of Life contains The Good Deeds of the saints and the book of death contains the evil deed of the wicked. 1 Corinthians 4:5 “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the _________ ____________ of _____________, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.” 15. What will be done with the names of the righteous? Matthew 10:32, 33 “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I _____________ also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.” 16. How do we know that this judgment has taken place before Michael stands up? Daniel 12:1 “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. Revelation 22:11, 12 “He that is ________, let him be __________ still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is _____________, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, ______ __________ quickly; and _________ _____________ is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” When Christ comes in the clouds, The Judgment has already taken place, for He brings His rewards with Him. We will be faithful and wait the soon coming of Christ. All sins confessed have gone on before hand to, The Judgment Set.
